Situation
Copart, a publicly-traded vehicle remarketing company, was founded in 1982 with one facility in Vallejo, CA. Today, Copart has more than 130 facilities across North America and the United Kingdom and sells more than one million vehicles every year using its state-of-the-art Internet sales technology called VB2.

As the company began to experience growth, it realized that it needed to find a site to re-locate its headquarters. Company executives wanted to remain in Solano County, close to the existing employee base. Another requirement was to find a site that offered room for expansion.

Why Fairfield
Copart chose the Green Valley area of Fairfield because it offered a location that could keep pace with the company's growth. The company chose a site in Green Valley Corporate Park that not only had the land to build a 103,000-square foot, three-story headquarters, but also offered ample acreage of open land for future expansion. For Copart's existing employees and those who would later join the company, the site offers easy freeway access as it is located at the convergence of three major highways. Another criterion that made Fairfield the location of choice is the city's large and diverse employee base.

What’s Next
Copart continues to grow world-wide, with expansion plans in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and beyond. As its footprint grows, so will its company headquarters. Currently, Copart's headquarters is home to more than 350 employees and has plenty of room for more. However, Copart is already prepared for when it outgrows its existing space having purchased a 6.5-acre piece of land next door.
