Fairfield lies in the heart of Solano County. Despite our growth, Fairfield maintains the charm and vitality of a small, thriving community. The city occupies 37 square miles of relatively flat land in the northeast San Francisco Bay Area and the western edge of California’s agricultural heartland, the Central Valley. Constant gentle breezes and temperate weather characterize Fairfield most of the year. The mean daily temperature ranges from 46 degrees in January to 72 degrees in July, with a yearly average of 62 degrees.
South of the city lies the largest freshwater marsh in the country, the Suisun Marsh and California Delta. The Suisun Marsh is the nation's largest brackish marsh and the largest wetland on the Pacific Coast. The 116,000-acre region not only supports abundant plant life but also serves as a stopover for up to 1.5 million migratory birds traversing the Pacific Flyway each year. To the north is the beautiful and unspoiled Suisun Valley, dotted with vineyards, premium wineries, farm-fresh produce stands, and quaint eateries. Nearby Lake Berryessa provided lakeside enjoyment to boaters, fishermen and picnickers.
Community Activities
Fairfield residents are a family-oriented and fun-loving crowd. Consequently, festivals and community activities are abundant year-round. Our downtown hosts a variety of events and festivities headed by the Fairfield Downtown Association. The weekly Certified Farmers Market is heaven to those who prefer the freshness of locally grown products and who like to mingle with the community. Each summer the market features fresh fruits, vegetables, bakery items, and a variety of other agricultural produce from local and regional growers. Other events found Downtown include parades, craft fairs, the Tomato Festival, the Candy Festival and the Holiday Night of Lights.
After a fun day strolling the streets of downtown, you can stop by the City’s intimate 380 seat Center for Creative Arts and enjoy the art and performances it offers. From comedy to musicals and opera to high drama, the Fairfield Center for Creative Arts hosts a broad range of entertainment.
Recreation
The City also sponsors a variety of sports and entertainment activities for its young and not-so-young residents. The city’s modern and well-equipped Community Center is home to preschool, arts, crafts, dance, music and nature study programs and is available for rent. A network of parks with jogging and biking paths within and around the City offer ample opportunities for hiking, picnics and other outdoor activities. The city boasts 18 parks and recreation centers including Linear Park, a trail converted from an old railroad row that intersects the city and Rockville Hills Regional Park, the largest regional park in Solano County with more than 600 acres. In Fairfield, golfing enthusiasts can choose between two championship golf courses, Rancho Solano Golf Course and Paradise Valley Golf Course. Executive-style residential developments neighbor the golf courses and compliment the calmness of the surrounding rolling hills and open space. Vineyards set the mood for a relaxing day at the neighboring Napa Valley Chardonnay and Silverado Golf courses.
